Question
We have a technical manager who frequently doesn’t arrive at work on Mondays and Fridays. What do you suggest we do to control this sort of absenteeism?Answer
You’re within your rights to implement a sick leave policy stating that if an employee is absent on Mondays, Fridays and before or after a public holiday a medical certificate has to be supplied (even if he’s only absent for one day). If employees fail to supply this certificate they’ll have to take unpaid leave. A sample sick leave policy is included in the Labour Law for Managers Loose Leaf .
